Craig J. Crook was shot to death while sitting behind the wheel of his car. Police chased and arrested a suspect who was charged the next day in federal court with being a felon in possession of a firearm. The suspect appeared for a detention hearing in federal court on Feb. 1, 2012. There, ATF Special Agent Charles Backer said said shell casings from the homicide scene matched the assault-style rifle found in the car in which the suspect was arrested after the shooting. "The shell casings were determined to have been fired from that firearm," Backer said. A witness also had picked the suspect out of a photo lineup, Backer said. The witness said he saw two men running back to a blue Toyota Camry. One of them, the suspect he picked out of the lineup, was carrying an assault-style rifle, the witness said. Magistrate Judge Sarah W. Hays ordered the suspect held pending indictment and trial. "He is a suspect in an ongoing homicide investigation," Hays said.
Police have cleared this case.
