Franchesca D. Brown, a pediatrician from Myrtle Beach, S.C., was in Overland Park to attend a medical conference at the Hawthorne Suites Hotel. She was last seen accompanied by a man at a Sept. 3 opening social gathering for the conference. Her family called police Sept. 9 after she didn't return home as scheduled. Her body was found Sept. 12 in a wooded area near the hotel. A federal fugitive warrant was issued for John Meredith Hodges of Ladson, S.C., and he was arrested in Colombia. Hodges and Brown had an off-and-on relationship and he attended the conference with her. He flew to Colombia after Brown was last seen. Overland Park police waited to announce Brown's death until Hodges was in custody.
