Road rage shooting victim identified as KC woman

The Kansas City Star

Kansas City police today identified a woman killed in a road rage shooting Wednesday as Jennifer Jones, 32, of Kansas City.

Jones was driving west on Emanuel Cleaver II Boulevard when the driver of a sport-utility vehicle got angry with her because of a traffic maneuver. Jones and the other driver, also a woman, swerved their vehicles toward each other, causing other motorists to take notice. At Elmwood Avenue, an occupant of the SUV opened fire at Jones’ van, hitting her. The SUV sped away, leaving Jones mortally wounded.

Two passengers in the van pulled Jones out to tend to her wounds. When police arrived, Jones was dead in the street next to her van.

The suspect vehicle was described as an early 2000s model Ford Expedition or Explorer with tinted windows and no tags.

Anyone with information should call the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-TIPS (474-8477). A cash reward of up to $1,000 is available for information that helps to identify a suspect. Callers can remain anonymous.

Jones’ death marked the seventh killing this week and brought the month’s homicide total to 15, the highest for a January in Kansas City in nearly 20 years.
