Man killed, another injured in Gladstone shooting

One person was in custody Friday as Gladstone authorities investigated a shooting at an apartment complex that killed one person and wounded another.

No charges had been filed by Friday afternoon, said Capt. Jeff Self, head of the Gladstone police investigative unit.

Police responded just before 4 a.m. to the Sun Gate apartment complex in the 6800 block of North Broadway, where they found a 23-year-old man in a hallway with several gunshot wounds. He was taken to a hospital, where he later died.

He was identified as Ashton Gann.

While investigating that shooting, police were told about 5 a.m. of a second shooting victim in a separate building in the complex. There they found an 18-year-old man with a gunshot wound to the abdomen. He was taken to a hospital, where he underwent surgery, said Self, who didn’t have information regarding the man’s condition Friday afternoon.

Although investigators think the two shootings were connected, Self declined to suggest any possible scenarios.

Right now it’s too early to speculate on motives,” he said.

Mike Christman, a maintenance man at the complex, said he was shocked that a shooting had occurred.

It’s really quiet here,” he said. “You might get some people playing their radio too loud, but nothing like this.”
