One dead after shooting at YMCA

The Kansas City Star

One person was killed and another was in stable condition Thursday after a shooting in the parking lot of the Red Bridge YMCA, 11300 Holmes Road in south Kansas City.

The incident occurred about 4:15 p.m. and apparently involved people in two vehicles.

Police said both wounded males were driven in private vehicles to St. Joseph Medical Center. One person was then confirmed dead. Police located the two vehicles at the hospital.

Mark Hulet, chief operating officer of the YMCA of Greater Kansas City, said some members were in the parking lot, witnessed the shooting and then returned to the building. As far as Hulet knew, there was no connection between the incident and the YMCA other than the location.

Anyone with information can call 816-474-TIPS (8477).
