Man shot, killed in Westport

A Kansas City man died of a gunshot wound early Sunday morning in Westport.

Police said they were called to investigate a disturbance at a music festival and then found the man further west in a parking lot at 4001 Mill St.

Officers identified the victim asKendrick L. Williams, 22, of Kansas City. Williams was taken to a hospital, where he later died.

Responding to reports that Mayor Sly James’ son may have witnessed the shooting, the mayor’s spokesman, Danny Rotert, e-mailed, “whether or not the mayor’s son was near, the shooting adds to a pattern of senseless violence that has to stop.”
