A barber was found shot to death inside his nondescript Kansas City shop Tuesday afternoon — the city’s fourth homicide within 19 hours.
Police were called to the New Creations Barber Shop at 3108 Troost Ave. about 2:30 p.m. after a female customer found the 40-year-old victim on the floor inside the business.
No further details about the killing were released. Police said it was too soon to tell whether the death was connected to a robbery.
New Creations had been on Troost for several years but didn’t advertise its presence with a sign. The store had tinted windows and a weathered exterior, police said. A passer-by might not even notice the barbershop was there.
Relatives told police the victim was hardworking and had three children. A man from a neighboring business said the barber had frequent disagreements with some of his neighbors and others.
The killing occurred as detectives were already scrambling to investigate three other homicides that occurred Monday night.
Brian Cunningham, 27, and Therman Lacy III, 30, both of Kansas City, died about 7:45 p.m. Monday after they were shot multiple times while sitting a vehicle in the 100 block of North Denver Avenue, just north of Budd Park in the Northeast area. Police found one victim in the front seat and one in the back seat.
Shortly before 10 p.m. Monday, officers called to a residence in the 3600 block of Highland Avenue found Jachin M. Reedy, 25, on his front porch with severe head injuries. He later died at a hospital. Police did not release a cause of death.
