KC police ID slain rap studio co-owner, second victim in Wednesday killings

The Kansas City Star

Kansas City police today identified two men shot to death at a recording studio Wednesday in the 8100 block of Hickman Mills Road as Mark L. Williams, 53, and Antonio E. Jones, 40.

Williams, who was known by his nickname Maestro, was one of the owners of the studio, which had opened in recent months. Though the business still was under renovation, rap artists already had been recording there.

The gunman apparently barged into the studio about 12:30 p.m. and shot Williams in the chest. Jones was shot next. The gunman aimed for a rap artist who was in the studio, but the rapper fled safely out the back door, ran to a nearby tire shop and called police.

People familiar with the studio said they did not know Jones or why Jones was at the business.
